Indian Culture

The Indian culture is one of the oldest cultures in the world. This is also referred to as Hinduism. There is a lot of proof that this culture has been around since 10,000 BC. The civilization in Harrappa and Moharjodado, which were two very popular cities in the Indus Valley, was far more advanced than any other culture, and that is why it is one of the most complicated cultures ever.

Something you must keep in mind, however, is that although Hinduism may be extremely different than your culture, there are still some similarities. For example, sports are a big deal there, especially cricket. If you are ever walking through the streets there you will see numerous games being played. Big cricket events, like India versus Pakistan, are a cause for celebration known as Bollywood which is basically the equivalent of Hollywood in California. The Hindu culture also likes to dance and be surrounded by music. Music and movies are just as popular there as it is in any other country.

One of the biggest similarities between India and other countries is their love for politics. People love to talk about past wars and assassinations. India is full of corruption and controversy, just like the United States and other countries. It does not matter if you are just a mere farmer or a rich executive, politics never get old.

The Hindu community is also a very religious group. There is prayer held every morning at shrines and temples throughout the streets and businesses do not open until the blessings have been made to their multiple gods. Hinduism is their primary religion, although they do generally welcome other religions, too. Family is an important factor for Hindus, even extended family. Usually you will have an entire family, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and children living together in one house.

The Indian culture does have its differences, but it is their similarities that should capture your interest. The most important thing to realize is that they are just people, like you. They may have different beliefs and values, but that is what is exciting about other cultures.
